Moments

Posted in Thoughts with tags , , on August 17, 2008 by João Guilhoto

Moments, our life is fullfiled with moments so rare as good as the bad. Things that happen but things that pass through this nasty life that betrays us with its gun called time. It is miserable watching the hours go into a universe of nothing, dying to the past, remembered in the present and who knows in the future. I feel so nostalgic about moments, I love them but I hate them. It is just like a very thin line that crosses the two worlds, between the love and hate, between hope and sadness. Everybody forgets, only small flashes survive from the this destruction from our lives. Everyting else is dust.

The thrilling New York

Posted in Travel, World with tags , on June 22, 2008 by João Guilhoto

If you think you are traveling into one more big city just like another big city of the world, you are very wrong. Of course New York is a huge town, however its glamour overcomes the extension of the place that for some people can suffocate. The whole town is magic, it’s just like you feel the music running down the streets of Manhattan, just like in the movies. The oldest downtown that mixes the historical neighbour with the most advanced architectural buildings; the uptown that makes us crazy when walking on fifth avenue, park avenue and times square; the great view from the Empire State Building and of course the big lung of the town, the green paradise of Manhattan, Central Park. A big town for people who enjoy thrilling life.

This is a really funny picture, the best I found in the Internet that combines humour and stupidity, and maybe a very precise photographer with a great luck. I always knew Bush was a bad politics even dealing with babies.

Click and earn

Posted in Internet with tags , , , on May 26, 2008 by João Guilhoto

Clicking sites are more and more common nowadays in the Internet. It’s very simple and almost every sites who offer this kind of business, work in the same philosophy: you have about 10 sites per day and every site you click you earn money (around 1 dollar cent per site). It is not too much and with that it is almost impossible to guarantee some good money at the end of the month. However you can refer people and you earn money with the clicking of your referrals. With this you can earn good money, specially if you buy referrals. The most famous webiste is http://bux.to but there are plenty of others if your search fot that in the Internet.

Robert de Niro and Elmo

Posted in Entertainment with tags , , on May 14, 2008 by João Guilhoto

For me, one of the greatest actors ever. He is usually associated to bad temepered or criminal characters, but we can see his versatility in this small clip, in which de Niro chats with Elmo about his work as an actor. It’s very funny to see the touch he has got to children.

The Plot Against America

The Plot Against America is a great book, written by Philip Roth. The story is about Roth himself and his family living in a time of fear, anger and concerning due to the winning of Lindbergh in the elections of 1940 against Franklin Delano Roosevelt. It is another version of the history that shows the anti-semitism in that the USA had fallen since President Lindbergh had come up to lead the nation into a neutral position during the II World War, however supporting the Third Reich. Roth is an eight and nine year old child who tells the story in that innocent but clever way of analysing the reality.

This is a very good book, about the awareness but concerned prespective by the jew community of a country threatened by anti-semitism and fascism.

Just to remember a great film [Taxi Driver]

Posted in Cinema with tags , , on April 21, 2008 by João Guilhoto

Taxi Driver is one of my favourite movies of all time, not just because it’s very well directed and performed but it’s also a movie about the scum, sadness and depression of the society. Travis Bickle is an ex-Vietnam soldier and finds a job as a taxi driver in New York City. However, he doesn’t make choices about the areas where he works, he just takes people wherever they want to. Although Travis is a concerned, angry man about the violence, prostitution, social deterioration on the streets of the city, he is at same time a very disturbed person, who got consumed by that life that surrounds him.

Travis is Robert de Niro who is completely inside the soul and the skin of his character. It’s undoubtly one of his best performences ever. Martin Scorsese also surprises in this movie, where we could see at the time it was made that he got talent and this movie made him famous and a prosperous director.

There are so many things to say about this movie… Just watch this clip!

Extras

Posted in Series with tags , , on April 19, 2008 by João Guilhoto

The first time I watched this serie I was completely atracted by its clever, well-written, interesting script. The cast is absolutely amazing and its main actors Ricky Gervais (who is also the writer) and Ashley Jensen have a really nice performance as two movie extras who get involved in some odd situations with real stars of the film industry. Gervais plays Andy Millman and Jensen is Maggie Jacobs. Andy is a frustrated extra who can never have acting parts in the movies he makes, like a full-desperate guy trying to reach fame. Maggie plays the stupid blond and due to her stupidity she can never find a boyfriend or a good job. However, she seems the only happy person in the show.

This is a very good sitcom, with hilarious situations, but with a great balance between comedy and drama. Each episode there is a new movie star who plays himself/herself in the serie. Ben Stiller, Kate Winslet, Samuel L. Jackson, Orlando Bloom are some of the examples of actors who helped to make this sitcom a great masterpiece.

Couchsurfing, the new way of travelling

Posted in Travel with tags , on April 7, 2008 by João Guilhoto

Recently I have found a new way of travelling throughout this World in a cheaper way and also in a way that provides the best interaction with people from other countries and other cultures. People can learn and know about the places they visit better than ever and meet new people and make new friends. In my conception, this kind of travelling revolutionates the perspective we have about the globe and makes us much more aware of the culture and the symbols of the country we travelling to.
